Fast facts

  • Long, narrow, thin, parallel-sided flakes of flint struck off specially-prepared cores or small blocks of flint
  • Upper, usually convex, surface of bladelet shows scars of previously-removed flakes
  • Most made from high-quality, colorful Flint Ridge flint
  • Sharp edges make excellent cutting tools
  • Size: Complete specimens generally ¾ to 2 inches long; often found broken
  • Hopewell: ca. 100 BC- AD 500
